Tonight marks the eve of our very first Family Fun Night. Back when Josh and I first got married, we used to talk about what we would like to do we decided to have a family. We both agreed that we would love to have one night set aside every week when we all would spend the night as a family having fun. It could be with a night of rousing board or card games or a movie night with popcorn and pop. It could also be things like bowling or going to the movies when the kids are old enough. So all week I have been building up to tonight. I told the kids about watching a new movie we rented and eating pizza, popcorn and pop. (You heard me right. Pizza and the milk-allergic kid.)
Alex and Abby were both getting excited for the night to come. (Alex more than Abby of course.) And sure enough, it was a hit! We had a blast tonight. I started out the night with pizza. "But how??" you might ask. I made it from scratch with a milk-free dough, pepperoni, sauce and soy-mozzarella cheese found at a specialty shop. It was pretty darn tasty if I do say so myself. The kids loved it (for which I could not be more surprised by my picky little eaters). Then we all curled up on the couch and watched Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. We snacked on old-school popcorn. Just plain old popcorn and salt. Yum. We had some root-beer and shared a box of Junior Mints (milk free candy, yay!). Even a few of the cats joined us in some popcorn eating fun. It was a hilarious movie and Alex asked me if we could have another 'fun night' again soon. It made me smile. I do believe family fun night is a winner.
